What do the baby teeth form?

The cells, which form the hard structures of the teeth, begin their work abot half way through pregnancy. The crowns of the front teeth are completed at about 2 months of age, molars at about 11months. The roots are still forming during tooth eruption and provide the force to push the teeth eruption and provide the force to push the teeth through the gums.

When will my baby get teeth?

Usually at six months, but there is a huge variation. Some babies start getting soon after they are born and some are toothless until they are 18 months old.

Is very early or very late tooth eruption a sign of any medical problem?

No, Some rare problems include late or early tooth eruption, but h other signs are more noticeable than te tooth eruptio pattern.

What is the usual sequence of eruption?

The middle front teeth erupt first and eruption alternates between upper and lower with the lower usually coming in first. Then pattern usually skips over the third tooth, the cupid. After the first molar has erupted, the cuspid then erupts.

Are babies ever born with teeth?

This can happen occasionally. They are called matal teeth if they are present at birth and neonatal teeth if they erupt during the first month. There is a great variation in natal teeth. Some are just barely through the gums and will develop near normally. Others are hanging on a stalk of gum tissu, will never develop normally and should be removed promptly to aviod the possibility of the tooth coming loose and being breathed in bythe baby.

Cut or Bitten Tongue, Lip or Cheek

Apply ice to bruised areas. If there is bleeding, aply firm but gengle pressure with a clean gauze or cloth. If bleeding does not stop after 15minutes or it cannot be controlled by simple pressure, take the child to a hospital emergency room.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth

Find the tooth. Handle the tooth by the top(crown), not the root portion. You may rinse the tooth, but DO NOT clean or handle the tooth unnecessarily. Try to reinsert it in its socket. Have the child hold the tooth in place by biting on a clean gauze or cloth. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, trans-port the tooth in a cup containing milk or water. See Dr. Choi immediately! Time is a critical factor in saving the tooth.

Toothache
